UD Transitions is a program designed to help students
make a smooth transition to the University of Dayton.
Students participate in a variety of academic and social
experiences that help them to become more familiar with the
University and the services that are available to them.
Additionally, students develop support systems with their
peers, upper class students, faculty, and staff.
Typically, the program takes place two days prior to the New
Student Orientation. Academic Support is offered to
students by way of supplemental advising, intervention and
workshops. The Office of Multicultural Affairs
works in collaboration with other academic and student
service offices to address students' individual needs to
ensure their academic success.
Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month
Celebrations consist of a variety of events which take
place throughout these months in recognition of the
contributions that have been made by members of these
cultural groups. The month long celebrations often
consist of speakers, banquets, book fairs, performances and
displays. The entire University of Dayton community is
invited to be part of these events./
Spiritual Programs are offered to students who
wish to continue on their spiritual journey. The OMA
staff collaborates with Campus Ministry staff to provide
students with both Catholic and non-Catholic spiritual
programs such as Spanish Mass, Protestant Worship Services
and Protestant Bible Study. Additionally, students may
participate in spiritually based retreats, Black Catholic
History Month activities and the Civil Rights Tour, which
focuses on the relationship between spirituality and the
Civil Rights Movement.
OMA Days are monthly socials that usually take
place in the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
Many of these socials have themes related to holidays such
as the Halloween Party, Thanksgiving, Luncheon and Christmas
Celebration. Other socials include Pizza Parties,
Games Night, and the Super Bowl Party. These socials
are very instrumental in helping to build community between
students and OMA staff.
Colors of Leadership Conference is a student run
conference that is supported and advised by the Office of
Multicultural Affairs. Students of color from
various universities, colleges and high schools convene each
year at the University of Dayton to learn about the the art
of leadership and how they can develop their leadership
skills in the community, as well as at their schools and
churches.
Recognition Banquets take place at the end of the
academic year when students are recognized and rewarded for
their accomplishments as graduates, student leaders and high
achievers.
The Father Joseph Davis Lounge is housed within
the Office of Multicultural Affairs and is named in
honor of an African American Marianist who was also a UD
Alumnus and Board of Trustees member. The lounge
offers a comfortable living room atmosphere where students
can relax, study, watch cable television, read books and
magazines, use computers and hold student organization
meetings and programs.
